Our Board
African Energy Metals enjoys the oversight and guidance of a seasoned board of directors who have demonstrated the ability to develop and grow international company’s and assets while creating significant shareholder value. The board is chaired by Stephen Barley, the Executive Chairman. Mr. Barley is joined on the board by Michael Townsend with over 25 years in the capital markets and an extraordinarily successful track record in establishing new successful enterprises. The Board also welcomes Shu Zhan and Joe Sandberg. Mr. Zhan has 30 years’ experience as a geologist and specific experience in the DRC. Joe Sandberg has over 45 years’ experience as a Professional Geologist and has an MBA.
J. Stephen Barley
Executive CHAIRMAN
Mr. Barley has over 40 years of experience in the public corporate arena assisting in all aspects of public corporate activity and providing corporate finance advice. After 15 years of private practice as a corporate finance and securities lawyer, Mr. Barley left the practice of law in 1997 to become president of CHM Financial Services Inc., a private company offering advice to and investing in numerous public
companies engaged in the resource and technology sector. He was involved in several TSX-listed resource companies engaged in substantial international projects and was engaged as an executive officer or director of those businesses. Mr. Barley remains a member in good standing of the law societies of British Columbia and Alberta and holds a BCom degree from Mount Allison University and an LLB from Dalhousie University.
Shu Zhan
DIRECTOR
Mr. Zhan has 35 years’ experience in exploration geology and technical consultancy in mineral and petroleum industries, including significant experience in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has worked in Asia, Australasia, and Africa engaging in the exploration of various commodities including gold, copper, cobalt, lead, zinc, nickel and iron ore. He is currently the senior consultant to a Chinese based cobalt processor which operates two copper-cobalt processing facilities in the DRC.
His professional areas cover mineral exploration, petroleum exploration, exploration management, mining merger and acquisition, joint venture management, technical due diligence, contract management, and M&A consultation. Mr Zhan is a member of several international professional institutes including the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) and the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG). He is a Registered Professional Geoscientist (RPGeo) of Australia. According to the Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves (‘the JORC Code’) and the Canada Ni43-101 regulations, he is defined as a Competent Person who can sign a public report (reporting mineral exploration results). The companies Mr Zhan has worked with include China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Placer Dome Inc and Coffey Mining. Mr. Zhan holds a BSc Geology (The Central-South University of China) and a MScApp of Mining Geology degrees (The University of Queensland of Australia). Mr Zhan is currently the senior consultant to Hanrui Cobalt, a large China based cobalt processor with two operating copper cobalt facilities in the DRC.
Joe Sandberg, MBA
DIRECTOR
Joe Sandberg is a Professional Geologist and holds an MBA. He has over 45+ years’ experience in exploration on precious metals and copper porphyry systems. He was the President and CEO of a TSX-listed copper exploration company that was successfully sold to another public company. Under Canadian NI 43-101 regulations, he is defined as a Competent Person who can sign public reports (reporting mineral exploration results). Mr. Sandberg has recently consulted on copper cobalt exploration in the DRC.
Guy Hébert
SENIOR TECHNICAL ADVISOR
Guy has 45+ years experience in funding, exploring, and developing uranium and polymetallic projects.
He was formerly CEO of Strateco Resources Inc., Lyon Lake Mines Ltd., Audrey Resources Inc., and has been the President of Aiguebelle Resources Inc.
He has been involved in over $400M of financing across various commodities in Canada and internationally.
